January 2009: The Final Report of the Learning Management System Project (subtitled L.M.S. Review and the Selection of the L.M.S. Solution for Mohawk College) has been completed. The Report and its recommendations were presented to A.I.T.A.C. on Monday, January 12, where it received unanimous support.

It is to be presented to C.I.T.S.C. on Friday, January 16, and again to the Senior Leadership group on Wednesday, January 21. Once it has received the support of those two groups, the Report will be published and accessible from this website.

September 2008: We're currently in the Proof of Concept phase of the Review. During this phase, the Group and over 30 faculty are working with each of the short-listed systems, building courses and working with the feature set. As well, we are examining and testing the administrative aspects of the system and confirming that a successful integration with our student information system is achievable.

arrow Project Outcomes

As a strategic priority, Mohawk College is developing an electronic learning (e-Learning) strategy for the entire institution. Learning Management Systems (LMSs) form a component of the e-Learning environment.

The College currently has a variety of LMS applications. It is the goal of this process to determine a solution that meets the various e-Learning needs within the College community and reduces the number of products being supported. The final solution will make provision for one or more systems to form the e-Learning environment within the College.

Outcomes of the LMS initiative include:

  • standardize and rationalize LMS tools
  • simplify technology choices for staff
  • communicate rationale for LMS choice(s)
  • improve effectiveness of LMS usage
  • advance Mohawk College’s vision of a Unified Digital Campus.
